Express Entry

EXPRESS ENTRY

IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) manages three immigration programs through Express Entry:

  1. Canadian Experience Class – for skilled workers with Canadian work experience

  2. Federal Skilled Worker Program – for skilled workers with foreign work experience

  3. Federal Skilled Trades Program – for skilled workers who have qualifications and experience in a skilled trade.

  • The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.

    Minimum requirements

    You must:

    •meet the required language levels needed for your job for each language ability

    •have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before you apply—you can meet this in a few different ways

    •have gained your work experience by working in Canada while under temporary resident status with authorization to work

    •(You must plan to live outside the province of Quebec. The province of Quebec selects its own skilled workers.) 

  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade. It has minimum requirements for:

    •language ability

    •work experience

    •specific work requirements related to the skilled trade

    •additional criteria.

    There are minimum requirements for:

    •Skilled work experience

    •Language Ability

    •Proof of funds

    •Admissibility

    (You must plan to live outside the province of Quebec. The province of Quebec selects its own skilled workers.) 

  • This program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. It has minimum requirements for:

    •skilled work experience

    •language ability

    •education

    You must meet all the minimum requirements to be eligible. If you do, your application will be assessed based on:

    •age

    •education

    •work experience

    •whether you have a valid job offer

    •English and/or French language skills

    •adaptability (how well you’re likely to settle here)

    These factors are part of a 100-point grid used to assess eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. You earn points for how well you do in each of the 6 factors.
